This morning we are planning a small recumbent trike tour into the vineyards of Durbach (Black Fores, Germany). And then we will just have a look on the way how it will be. See you! The weather is not so exhilarating yet, it is very windy, almost stormy. So we have to see how it will be later. Actually we wanted to make a part of the ride through the forest, but we have to see how strong the wind is there. Otherwise it is relatively warm for February, we have announced 20°C for today (68° F). It should be quite nice. The visibility is quite reasonable.
Otherwise spring has broken out in our area. We already have daffodils, crocuses in the garden, the starlings are looking for their nest boxes. Yesterday we also saw the first lizards, wall lizards, who don’t fall into winter stiffness. So when it gets warmer, they’re fit right away. It’s very nice to ride a bike, a little less wind wouldn’t be bad. Or not specifically straight from the front… 😉 Here above the road is the carnival decoration. In our area, rags are hung up across the streets. As you can see here. We’ve been riding uphill a little bit now, left Durbach-Ebersweier behind us. Our first stopover is the St. Anton chapel ruins. In that direction. Great! No storm damage, my ass… So, that went quite well, we just lifted the trikes over it. Now we see that we get ahead. It’s not so long ago that the trees fell… The chapel was founded in 1455 by the Franciscans from Offenburg. Almost a hundred years later it was destroyed in the first Peasant War. Then in 1632 it was damaged by Swedish troops, in 1704 it was damaged again … no wonder that it is so damaged… Afterwards it was rebuilt. Ah yes, okay, no masses have been read here since 1790, nothing has been renovated, and then it just fell apart. Well, that’s a great view. Yes, it’s really nice up here, you have a really good view, of Durbach, of the Rhine valley. Great! And the weather has improved a lot. Over there we’ll see if we can find a place for a break. Here you have a phenomenal view of the Rhine valley and here of the Black Forest. We didn’t expect that we would have such a great view. And now we ride back again. Here is the Mühlbach along the Kinzig (creek, river). Here it has also cost a few trees every now and then, but rather smaller ones. It can’t be because of the dryness, because they are two meters away from the creek. We just met another Youtuber named Frank. Also with a recumbent trike, an HP Velotechnik Scorpion. And funnily enough he rode exactly in the other direction, going exactly where we just came from. Yeah, so we meet. So, now we have reached the end of our tour. The weather is really beautiful today, a real spring day. Great for mid-February! We had a great tour, beautiful views over Durbach, into the Rhine valley up to the Vosges. It was really wonderful today, it was good to go out.
See you next time.
